This is the last day of GAETI 2018.  Each group worked on their art and musical presentations this morning.  Jillian Smart presented 'Character and Content' and ways to implement this into student activities. I send my  apprecation to Dr.  Bracey's Department  Head for the delicious lunch.  In  'Exploring Culture through Art' with Mrs. Latham, we finished up our art projects and presentations, successfully.  Each group presented their musical  and testimonial presentations.  This was fun for all.  It was enjoyable meeting and working with new colleagues and seeing and working with former ones again.  I am grateful to Dr. Bracey's for a week of effective instructions and materials to better our classroom instruction.
On Thursday, our morning began with Dr. Bracey's session, 'The Importance of Service Learning', a project tied to lessons and components, also to help someone while doing it.  We learned about the law in Mississippi regarding the homeless, that its illegal, one can be jailed for being homeless in our state. Educators need to be keenly aware of needed ways  to benefit the 1.3 million students in MS that are homeless. I look forward to reading and analyzing the new booklet we received on Service projects to use in lesson planning.   Kenya Horn presented 'Integrating College and Career Readiness Skills into Daily Instruction'.  We learned that by the year 2020, 65% of jobs will require a college education.  Consultant is a job market on the rise.  We were given career readiness websites  that give activities  and videos to use with our students.  Teachers must encourage students to create a dream, expose kids to careers, alumni, employer guest speakers, have students c
On this second day, our sessions began  with Dr.  Lee's  'Presentation on Adobe Sparks I, on how to set it up.  Ms.  Stephanie Agnew presentation was on 'Presentation development & delivery'.  The information was very useful and to the point.  She informed us that our finale is just as important as the introduction and gave many  more helpful ways to make for an effective speech.  Mr. Thomas Lafoe's presentation on 'Getting started with 3D printing'  was very informative.  He gave us websites  to visit and showed us good examples on their usefulness.
The first day of GAETI 2018 was enlightening and enjoyable.  In groups of two,  teachers familiarized and introduced each other.  We learned about the value of music in the classroom in setting a positive mood, thus improving discipline and creating an environment more conducive to learning.  We had art with Mrs.  Latham.  This activity is interesting and requires different steps to complete.   Mr.  Reginald  Ware gave us timely information on improving communication between teachers and students and colleagues.   Today was filled with many good tools to  contribute  to effective learning in the classroom.
The Conference poster design using ' MS Publisher' session was presented by Ms.  Stephanie Agnew.  She guided us in making conference type posters, placing diagrams, pictures and cutting and pasting paragraphs in selected columns.  The session on                                       evaluating fake news was given by Dr. Elizabeth Downey that included tools and strategies and a website for critically evaluating fake news.  This is a valuable  skill for students to master that will be both interesting and enjoyable.  'Branching out:  Starting a family tree with Ancestry.com'  was presented by Dr.  DeeDee Baldwin.  This was fantastic.  I had much success in locating my ancestors Our students will enjoy working on this activity and its many facets.  We  worked on our art projects with Mrs.  Latham  and was presented  'Web design basic by Dr. Sang Joon Lee.   and our overview this morning.
